Welcome to the SAN FRANCISCO 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

Today we have a special on-site podcast with 49ers starting safety Eric Reid at The Brixton Restaurant in San Francisco. We  discuss the thebrixtonNiners loss in Arizona, the upcoming game against the Patriots and Eric’s decision to kneel with Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem throughout the season.

Reid is in his 4th season in the NFL after being drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft by San Francisco out of LSU. He was elected to play in the 2014 Pro Bowl.

Reid talked to The Sports Virus about the Niners defensive woes this season:

“…It’s been on us as players not executing the calls which has led to the big plays and the yards. It has nothing to do with the scheme. I personally love the scheme. We just have breakdowns every now and then which leads to those big plays. I think we showed on Sunday that if we execute the play that’s called then we can minimize the big plays and we put ourselves in a better position to win games.”

Bono talked to The Sports Virus about Colin Kaepernick’s inconsistency:

“…He would much rather be throwing on the run. He doesn’t have the rhythm in his drop or into his throwing motion. He seems like he rushes them… He doesn’t seem to be comfortable in there (the pocket). I don’t think he sees things terrifically so he wants to get the ball out of his hand, whereas when he’s on the run it’s one or two guys and he can focus in on them and make an accurate throw.”

“…He missed a few throws, a few throws were late, a few throws were dropped, then there were some sacks. It’s the same thing that it was with Blaine (Gabbert).”

Bono: 49ers “Probably Need To Stick With Kaep Now” D “Not Built For Run Stopping Up Front”

49ers Extra Logo nostripe sm

Welcome to the SAN FRANCISCO 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

Every Tuesday we chat with Former 49ers QB Steve Bono. Today we discuss the Niners 45-16 loss in Buffalo  and analyze the first start of the season for QB Colin Kaepernick.

Bono spent 14 seasons in the NFL. He had a 5-1 record in his 6 Niners starts and finished his career 28-14 overall.

BONO

The Sports Virus asked Bono if Colin Kaepernick should remain as the starting QB:

“…I’m partial to Blaine (Gabbert) because I think that he’s worked hard to earn that spot. Has he played great this year? No. Has he played bad? No. But, I think that because Chip already made the change he probably needs to stick with Kaep for right now. You made the change, he didn’t play bad enough to take him out, he didn’t play great enough to go ‘oh yeah, he’s for sure our starter next week.’ (Kelly) seemed somewhat reluctant to announce him as the starter…My hope would be that the difference maker is that he can take off (running) two or three times and make a huge play.”

The Sports Virus talked to Bono about the final drive vs. Dallas:

“…2:30 to go in the game, we start moving the ball, we’re doing good, but then at that critical time where we need a big body to get open we don’t necessarily have it.”

The Sports Virus talked to Bono about Blaine Gabbert’s play in Seattle and his future:

“…it didn’t seem like he was seeing the field well…is he the best in the league? No, but he’s a good dude and you want to see him succeed. He reminds me a lot of Alex (Smith) when he was younger.”

Bono told The Sports Virus  why he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to switch quarterbacks right now:

“…I personally don’t think Kaep is into it mentally. Honestly, I don’t think he wants to play. I hope that’s not the case, but that’s the impression I get.”

BONO

The Sports Virus  asked Bono if a QB change could be in the works if Blaine Gabbert doesn’t play better soon:

“…I’m sure that will have to happen at some point if they don’t win and (Gabbert) is not consistent… For the most part Blaine is going to the right guy. Is it on the money every time, no…(A QB controversy) is not good for anybody. Especially the team. Who’s going to play? I want this guy to play, I want that guy to play.”

Bono On Week 1 Win, Kaepernick “A Distraction,” Gabbert “Has Good Rapport With Tight Ends”

49ers Extra Logo nostripe sm

Welcome to the SAN FRANCISCO 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

Every Tuesday we chat with Former 49ers QB Steve Bono. Today we discuss the Niners 28-0, Monday Night Football, Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Rams and the Colin Kaepernick protest.

Bono spent 14 seasons in the NFL. He had a 5-1 record in his 6 Niners starts and finished his career 28-14 overall.

Bono talked to The Sports Virus about Colin Kaepernick’s protest:

“…I wouldn’t want that focus on me. You’re part of a team. I’m fine with him speaking out about it, but how do you consciously feel good about kneeling if front of all of those service men and women? That would bother me quite a bit…It’s become about Colin and not the team. You don’t want to be a guy standing by himself isolating yourself from the team. It’s not healthy for the team. You don’t want to be a distraction…I’m surprised that he’s still here. It’s been a distraction – just everything that went on last year with all the injuries that nobody really seemed to know about (and) given the issues with Trent (Baalke) last year…There’s a battle for power within the organization.”
