Welcome to the INSIDE CHINA BASIN Giants Podcast

Updated 3 times a  week on TheSportsVirus.com!

As we head into the final 6 games of the season we chat with Giants reliever George Kontos and Giants catcher Trevor Brown.

KONTOS

Kontos talked to The Sports Virus about the state of mind in the bullpen:

… “When the phone rings it could be any of us. Anybody in that bullpen has a chance to contribute in a big spot…We all have confidence in each other and anybody who gets the ball is going to be called on to get some big outs. I think we’re going to do that in these last 6 games.”

trevor brown

Brown told the The Sports Virus the Giants are optimistic:

… “We’re still battling. We all know that we’re still in a good spot and have a chance to make the playoffs.”

The Sports Virus talked to Bono about Blaine Gabbert’s play in Seattle and his future:

“…it didn’t seem like he was seeing the field well…is he the best in the league? No, but he’s a good dude and you want to see him succeed. He reminds me a lot of Alex (Smith) when he was younger.”

Bono told The Sports Virus  why he doesn’t think it’s a good idea to switch quarterbacks right now:

“…I personally don’t think Kaep is into it mentally. Honestly, I don’t think he wants to play. I hope that’s not the case, but that’s the impression I get.”

Inside China Basin Logo SQ 1400x1400

Welcome to the INSIDE CHINA BASIN Giants Podcast

Updated 3 times a  week on TheSportsVirus.com!

We chatted with  Steve Bitker from KCBS in San Francisco on Saturday.

BITKER

Bitker talked to The Sports Virus about the Giants chances of reaching the post season.

… “(Bruce) Bochy says they’re going to have to pitch and they’re going to have to hit to get into the post season. Well, maybe not. Maybe they don’t have to. Maybe a 3-5 record in their final 8 games will get them in. The way the Cardinals are playing and the way the Mets are injury riddled it could happen.”

John Shea revised

… “It’s just the wrong time for this to happen… It’s just not great for moral, not an emotional boost when you lose two key figures like that. But, on the positive side, neither is supposed to miss much time.”

The Sports Virus  asked Bono if a QB change could be in the works if Blaine Gabbert doesn’t play better soon:

“…I’m sure that will have to happen at some point if they don’t win and (Gabbert) is not consistent… For the most part Blaine is going to the right guy. Is it on the money every time, no…(A QB controversy) is not good for anybody. Especially the team. Who’s going to play? I want this guy to play, I want that guy to play.”

John Shea revised

Shea examined the current closer situation with The Sports Virus:

… “I wish (Bruce) Bochy would have trusted Joe Nathan a little bit more a little bit earlier. Now he’s just kinda throwing darts against a wall and hope Derek Law sticks or (Hunter) Strickland comes back and sticks.”

blach-action-photo

The Sports Virus asked Blach about his first experience in the Major Leagues:

…”It’s great being able to be a part of a playoff run here, to see what these guys are all about and see if we can get a post-season push going. It’s been a lot of fun being around these guys and just trying to enjoy the process.”

woodson-photo

Woodson talked to The Sports Virus about the Giants mindset during an awful second half:

…”When you start having 3, 4, 5 really, really bad losses like they’ve had in the last couple of weeks human nature says it’s got to wear on you a little bit. When that starts happening it can be mentally damaging. These are human beings, not robots.”

Matt Moore: “It’s A Fight For Us,” Andrew Baggarly: Buster Posey “Should Win The Gold Glove”

Inside China Basin Logo SQ 1400x1400

Welcome to the INSIDE CHINA BASIN Giants Podcast

Updated 3 times a  week on TheSportsVirus.com!

We talk about the Giants/Cardinals series with SF LHP Matt Moore who gets the start on Friday and Bay Area News Group reporter Andrew Baggarly.

MATTMOORE

Moore tells The Sports Virus about his daily attitude  coming to the park with a team in the playoff race:

… “When you wake up in the morning it’s a little bit easier to crawl right out of bed. We have something real going on over here and it’s definitely a fight for us.”

baggarly-photo

Baggarly  tells The Sports Virus about a silver lining to the Giants recent struggles:

… “Buster Posey is having probably his finest defensive season. He should win the Gold Glove. His throwing has been unbelievable, his receiving has been unbelievable. So, he’s not taking this homer-less slump into the field with him.  That’s what Bruce Bochy has said, he likes the focus that he sees and he likes the work habits. If anything guys are working too hard. That’s why in a night game to open the series against the Cardinals they don’t show up until 5:00 for the 7:00 game. I think Bruce Bochy said look I’m going to lock the batting cage and we’re just going to strap it on and stop thinking so much. Just go out and be your talented selves and perform.”

Bono On Week 1 Win, Kaepernick “A Distraction,” Gabbert “Has Good Rapport With Tight Ends”

49ers Extra Logo nostripe sm

Welcome to the SAN FRANCISCO 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

Every Tuesday we chat with Former 49ers QB Steve Bono. Today we discuss the Niners 28-0, Monday Night Football, Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Rams and the Colin Kaepernick protest.

Bono spent 14 seasons in the NFL. He had a 5-1 record in his 6 Niners starts and finished his career 28-14 overall.

BONO

Bono talked to The Sports Virus about Colin Kaepernick’s protest:

“…I wouldn’t want that focus on me. You’re part of a team. I’m fine with him speaking out about it, but how do you consciously feel good about kneeling if front of all of those service men and women? That would bother me quite a bit…It’s become about Colin and not the team. You don’t want to be a guy standing by himself isolating yourself from the team. It’s not healthy for the team. You don’t want to be a distraction…I’m surprised that he’s still here. It’s been a distraction – just everything that went on last year with all the injuries that nobody really seemed to know about (and) given the issues with Trent (Baalke) last year…There’s a battle for power within the organization.”
