Every Tuesday during the NFL season we chat with former 49ers QB Steve Bono. Today we talk about the 49ers second win in a row, an overtime victory over the Seahawks, a team that San Francisco had not beaten in it’s last 10 tries.
Bono assessed the play of QB Nick Mullens: “…He sees things well, he moves the ball around well, distributing it to different receivers. The ball is delivered on time, it’s a catchable ball, it’s accurate. He’s playing really well…He’s earned the right to be there and I think the guys have responded to him.”

Every Tuesday during the NFL season we chat with former 49ers QB Steve Bono. Today we get talk about the 49ers win over the Broncos which included an incredible first half performance by TE George Kittle.
Bono compared Kittle to great 49ers tight ends in team history: “…Vernon (Davis) became a good receiving tight end. Tremendous speed. I think (Kittle) is a better route runner, a better pass catcher…Brent (Jones) was a terrific athlete who ran well in a very awkward style, so you didn’t know which way he was going. His arms were going one way, his feet were going another way, but he was extremely effective, he knew how to run routes and he was a great pass catcher. If that ball was anywhere close he was going to get it.”

Bono talked about WR Dante Pettis and RB Jeff Wilson : “..This time of the year for the rookies, they’re exhausted. What they’re used to mentally and physically their season is over from college…But, because they were injured and they had some rest in kind of the middle part of the season they’re going to be more fresh for the fourth quarter of the season and I would expect good things out of both of them for the rest of the year.”

49ers QB CJ Beathard joins us on a regular basis this season and today he chats about his overall performance and the possibility of being a back-up again on Monday Night against the Giants.
CJ talked about coach Kyle Shanahan’s impending starting quarterback decision: “…you want to start and you want to be the guy and play, so obviously I’m hoping that’s the way it goes, but I’ve got to respect his decision whatever it is. If they do go with Nick (Mullens), I’ve got to be the best teammate to Nick that I can be and the best backup I can be.”
Every Tuesday during the NFL season we chat with former 49ers QB Steve Bono. Today we get talk about the Thursday night win over the Raiders and get Steve’s thoughts on the QB situation.
Bono can relate to losing a starting spot since it happened to him: …”It’s not easy by any stretch of the imagination. It’s burning inside of you that you want to be the guy in there, but you’re not and you have to do everything that you can to help the guy that’s in there. My personal experience was with getting removed as a starter and Rich Gannon getting the starting spot. Rich and I were close and still are. We were trying to get wins. I had to do everything I can to help him win a game. That’s just the way it is.”
