SF Chronicle Columnist John Shea joins us for part 2 of our conversation. Just prior to the start of the Giants/Marlins series in Miami we discuss the possibility of Giancarlo Stanton being acquired by the Giants. Plus, Mark Melancon’s goals for the rest of 2017.
The Sports Virus suggested that it might be far-fetched to think the Giants would have a chance to acquire Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton. Shea weighed in: “…Is it far fetched? Here’s a Giants team that will have Matt Cain off the books, $20 million…we don’t know yet about Johnny Cueto and whether he opts out or remains next year, that’s $20 plus million…There are players with big contracts that they may not necessarily appreciate anymore…The Giants sort of owe their fans something.”
Come back FRIDAY when we talk with Mark Purdy, who recently retired from the Bay Area News Group.

Our special guest to talk about the Giants upcoming series in Miami and Ichiro’s 3,000th base hit is Marlins Broadcaster Glenn Geffner.
A day after Ichiro Suzuki collected his 3,000th hit in the Major Leagues, Geffner talked to The Sports Virus about what makes him a special Marlin:
… “He’s such a professional. He’s such a great role model for these younger players. He works so hard and takes the game so seriously. He’s so structured, so regimented in how he prepares for every single game, every single at bat. It’s a marvel to watch this guy.”
Come back WEDNESDAY when former Giants catcher Andrew Susac is our guest.

We talk about the early state of the slumping Giants with our regular guest SF Chronicle Columnist John Shea in part one of our conversation.
Shea addressed the San Francisco bullpen with The Sports Virus: … “can (Josh) Osich and (Hunter) Strickland carry this? Who knows? The bullpen hasn’t been great, but at the same time they’ve worked an awful lot of innings.” On Barry Bonds returning as Marlins hitting coach: … “coaches show up at Noon for a night game. We’ll see how long this will last. He kind of played by his own rules over the years.”
Come back MONDAY for part 2 of our chat with John Shea.
