Today we focus on the Giants bullpen and hear from LHP Tony Watson and rookie RHP Ray Black. Watson is loving playing in San Francisco and putting up good numbers, posting a 1.50 ERA in his first 42 relief appearances. Black is ecstatic about getting his shot in the Major Leagues after a long, injury-filled journey. The man with the 100+ mph fastball put his less-than-stellar debut behind him and pitched well Tuesday night agains the Cubs, retiring the side in order with 2 strikeouts. Monday at AT&T Park in San Francisco we chatted with Giants reliever Cory Gearrin about the recent 10-game road trip. We also hear from Giants manager Bruce Bochy, trainer Dave Groeschner and NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Amy Gutierrez.
Giants trainer Dave Groeschner talked about Madison Bumgarner’s rehab: “He’s made great progress the last 10 days or so, throwing just about every day and got off the mound today. …He did a great job keeping his arm strong and the rest of his body strong, his lower body, his core…He did a lot of shoulder exercises, we did a lot of different things, cuff weights on his arm, just to do anything we could to keep his strength in there…Everyone sees Bum’s competitiveness on the field and that’s pretty much what he does with his rehab. He works really hard. He gets after it just like he does in the game and that helps us. We get a guy that’s that motivated, I really feel like that helps you come back bigger, stronger and quicker and he’s been working his butt off.”

Bochy tells The Sports Virus about his left fielders: “It’s going to be competitive with these guys. We’ve got a lot of experienced guys battling for a spot on this team and two young guys in Parker and Williamson. We probably won’t make a call until very, very late in the spring. We feel like we have some good choices, have some depth there, but some very difficult calls.”
Shea talked to The Sports Virus about Jimmy Rollins: “Here’s a guy who’s played his entire career at shortstop. He’s darn near 40 years old and he’s learning this new position (second base). You can’t count him out at all. An MVP, the Gold Glove award winner, a World Champion. Now he’s trying to win a job as a back up infielder and Joe Panik has been fantastic with him. Panik won a Gold Glove last year. Even though he’s in his 20’s, he’s really helping out Jimmy Rollins at second base.”
