49ers Extra Logo nostripe sm

Welcome to the SF 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

Every week former 49ers QB Steve Bono analyzes the Niners game. This week we chat about the disappointing and surprising loss to the Dolphins. Steve points to the offensive line woes as the biggest issue right now. He says opponents have a strategy against left tackle Trent Williams: “They’re trying to bull rush him to start and then that grab and throw. They’re getting inside of his arms. (Mike) McGlinchey a little bit of the same thing. The offensive line, I just don’t think they’re playing that well.”

49ERS EXTRA: Bono Says Rest Jimmy G, Start Mullens Over Beathard

49ers Extra Logo nostripe sm

Welcome to the SF 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

Every week former 49ers QB Steve Bono analyzes the Niners game. This week we chat about the loss to the Eagles which featured critical mistakes by QB Nick Mullens. Still, Steve feels SF should give Jimmy Garoppolo another week to heal and start Mullens over CJ Beathard who  almost led the team to a late-game comeback win on Sunday night: “If it’s me I go with Nick, but I would have to tell him if you struggle or we struggle I may go to CJ. I don’t want to put that pressure on him but he’s got to understand that if we’re struggling offensively that as a head coach I need to make that change to see if we can create a spark. I think if you pull Nick and not start him right now then you’ve crushed him.”

INSIDE CHINA BASIN: Ray Woodson Assesses Giants Playoff Push, Risky MLB NLCS/WS Fan Plans

Welcome to the INSIDE CHINA BASIN Baseball Podcast

Updated once a week and celebrating its 11th season on TheSportsVirus.com!

Former KNBR talk show host Ray Woodson joins Inside China Basin to give his thoughts on the Giants outlook for the post season with six games to go in the regular season. We also discuss MLB’s plans to have fans in the stands at the NLCS and World Series.

Woodson on Giants pitching during the final playoff push: “They’re going to have to cobble it all together with the bullpen because it really is all hands on deck now. You’re going to have to manage like it’s a playoff game and I think you’ll see that reflected in how Gabe Kapler gives starting pitchers a much shorter leash.”

49ers Extra Logo nostripe sm

Welcome to the SF 49ers EXTRA podcast on TheSportsVirus.com!

The Niners were decimated by injuries during their week 2 win at the New York Jets. How does the team still succeed with a whole new set of players? Our weekly analyst Steve Bono tackles that question and has some advice for Jimmy G. if he plays with his bad ankle on Sunday on the same Met Life Stadium turf against the Giants: “I would go with basketball shoes from my experience. It worked for me and I know it would work for him as far as not grabbing as much.”

INSIDE CHINA BASIN: John Shea on Giants “Are You Kidding Me” Offensive Improvement

Welcome to the INSIDE CHINA BASIN Baseball Podcast

Updated once a week and celebrating its 11th season on TheSportsVirus.com!

San Francisco Chronicle columnist John Shea joins the Inside China Basin podcast to analyze the Giants offensive prowess, scoring over 5 runs a game for the first time since the Barry Bonds/Jeff Kent era. Plus, we discuss the closer situation and tell some stories while reminiscing about Hall of Famers Tom Seaver and Lou Brock, who passed away this past week. Shea recently co-authored the book 24, Life Stories and Lessons from the Say Hey Kid with Willie Mays.

Shea on the Giants new-look offense: “Are you kidding me? What? This we have never seen. I guess we have to go back to the early 2000’s with (Barry) Bonds and (Jeff) Kent when they were scoring 5+ runs a game. But, now they’re doing it with guys that, well, they’re not Bonds and Kent…They’re scoring runs at a clip that nobody expected.”

Updated once a week and celebrating its 11th season on TheSportsVirus.com!

Former KNBR talk show host Ray Woodson joins Inside China Basin to give his thoughts on the Giants outlook for the post season as they begin the final month of the regular season. He also evaluates rookie catcher Joey Bart and discusses who should be the closer.

Woodson on Joey Bart: “There’s no doubt that when he makes contact that it is loud contact to all fields. He’s got impressive power…It’s just going to take some time. He’s a smart player. He’s definitely coachable. You’ve got to have him go out there and learn the hard way.”

INSIDE CHINA BASIN: SJ Giants Announcer Joe Ritzo On Joey Bart, Logan Webb, Hunter Pence

Welcome to the INSIDE CHINA BASIN Baseball Podcast

Updated once a week and celebrating its 11th season on TheSportsVirus.com!

The Voice of the San Jose Giants Joe Ritzo joins Inside China Basin to discuss the promotion of rookie catcher Joey Bart and chat about Logan Webb’s development, the emergence of Austin Slater as an offensive force and the Giants designating Hunter Pence for assignment. Joe also describes his MLB debut emotions from 2019 when he was called on to do four games on the radio for San Francisco.

Ritzo on Joey Bart: “He is a very special talent and that was very obvious from the first week of last season when he was with us in San Jose. All the different ways that he can impact a game. I love watching him hit because a lot of his power can go out to center and right. It’s power to all fields which isn’t very common for such a young hitter. He can also make an impact defensively.”
