This week we chat about the Monday Night loss to the Bills which exposed flaws in the SF defense and QB Nick Mullens. “Honestly I don’t know if he’s good enough to be the difference maker,” says Bono. “Kyle (Shanahan) likes having him in there, his teammates like having him in there because he gets them to the right play, he’s getting them out of trouble. Maybe that’s something that (CJ) Beathard doesn’t do as well, but God when they have to be in a throwing situation I would like to have seen Beathard slinging it around last night.”

Still, Steve feels SF should give Jimmy Garoppolo another week to heal and start Mullens over CJ Beathard who almost led the team to a late-game comeback win on Sunday night: “If it’s me I go with Nick, but I would have to tell him if you struggle or we struggle I may go to CJ. I don’t want to put that pressure on him but he’s got to understand that if we’re struggling offensively that as a head coach I need to make that change to see if we can create a spark. I think if you pull Nick and not start him right now then you’ve crushed him.”

San Francisco has won two games in a row after a decisive 36-9 win in New Jersey against the Giants. Former Niners QB Steve Bono was impressed with Nick Mullens who threw for 343 yards on Sunday: “The footwork, the touch and the anticipation were really good in the second half of the game.”
