Our series of interviews focusing on pitching and defense continues. Next up is Dodgers 2nd Baseman Mark Ellis.

Mark Ellis has been an elite 2nd baseman during his 10 years in the Major Leagues. Even though he has yet to win a Gold Glove, he has been very deserving of the honor. Consider that from 2006-2011 Ellis had these error totals: 2, 5, 4, 5, 3, 3. After spending most of his career in Oakland, Mark is in his first season in LA. He told us the keys to being a good 2nd baseman  when we sat down before a recent game in San Francisco.

Our series of interviews focusing on pitching and defense continues. Next up is Dodgers pitcher Chris Capuano.

Chris Capuano has survived not one, but two Tommy John surgeries that caused him to miss two full seasons. Now he might be headed for the best year of his career that started in 2003. This season he’s off to a 9-2, 2.60 ERA start and should be on the All Start team for the second time. We talked to Capuano about the keys to his success these days and the art of being a starting pitcher when we sat down before a recent game in San Francisco.

Andre Ethier and the Dodgers came to San Francisco in first place in the NL West ready to battle the rival Giants who were slicing into the lead. Ethier has had injury troubles the past two years, but he has played well enough to be an All Star both seasons and he won a gold glove last year in right field. In 2012 he has surpassed 50 RBIs and we haven’t even reached the All Star break yet. Andre talked about how the Dodgers are carrying on without Matt Kemp and the Dodgers/Giants rivalry before a game at AT&T Park.

Gregor Blanco has injected life into the Giants offense with his ability to reach base and his electric speed. He is the leadoff hitter they have been searching for during recent seasons. For 30 years, when San Francisco sports fans have mentioned “The Catch” it was obvious they were referring to the 49ers Dwight Clark making a leaping reception of a Joe Montana pass in the end zone to beat the Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship Game. Well, maybe  we had “The Catch 2″ in the city by the bay  when Blanco saved Matt Cain’s perfect game with a diving snag against the Astros. Gregor talked in detail about that amazing play and his time with the Giants when he joined us before a game against the Dodgers at AT&T Park.

Roger Clemens was recently acquitted  on all charges that he obstructed and lied to Congress in denying he used performance-enhancing drugs. Should he be in the Hall of Fame? Rays pitcher Joel Peralta was ejected from a game against the Nationals for having pine tar on his glove. Instant replay continues to be a topic of conversation in baseball. And, Tim Lincecum has two Cy Young awards at home, but he is struggling big time  for the Giants. It’s all on the table for Joe Castellano in this Inside China Basin podcast.
